Power Plant Engineering
Energy and power plant cycles
What is Energy and Energy science?
How they are classified?
Energy-Energy is defined as capability to produce motion.
Energy science- The study of different forms of energy and its conversion
from one form to another is called as energy science.
Energy sources- The energy resources are classified as follows:
1) Renewable energy- The energy obtained from sources which are inexhaustible in nature.
2) Non-renewable energy- The energy obtained from sources which are exhaustible in nature.
Examples- coal, oil, gas.
Power- Power is defined as rate of doing
work.
Power plant/power station- Power plant /power station is defined as it is an industrial
facility for generation of electric power.
The capital
cost of plant increase with increase in plant efficiency. As to increase the
efficiency of the plant, new components are added so it increase the capital
cost.
The
consumption of fuel decreases with increase in plant efficiency. As the new
components added so fuel consumption deceases and therefore operational cost of
plant decreases.
Selection of power plants for power
generation-
The various
factors are consider during the selection of power plant for power generation
are as follows :
1) Availability of raw material
2) Availability of type of fuel
3) Availability of suitable site for
power generation
4) Cost of land, fuel, transportation
6) Availability of cooling water
7) Efficiency of plant
8) Life of plant
9) Type of load to be met
Types of power plants- The types of
power plants are as follows:
1) Steam power plants
2) Diesel power plants
3) Gas turbine power plants
4) Hydraulic power plants
5) Nuclear power plants
1) Steam power plants
2) Diesel power plants
3) Gas turbine power plants
4) Hydraulic power plants
5) Nuclear power plants
